RALEIGH (WTVD) --The White House announced Wednesday that Michael Jordan is one of this year's recipients of the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

The awards will be presented November 22.
The nation's highest civilian honor, the White House said this year's recipients "have made especially meritorious contributions to the security or national interests of the United States, to world peace, or to cultural or other significant public or private endeavors."
Jordan played for coach Dean Smith at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill where he was a member of the Tar Heels' national championship team in 1982.
He went on to play 15 seasons in the NBA for the Chicago Bulls and Washington Wizards - winning six championships. He is currently principal owner of the Charlotte Hornets.
