LAKE LURE, N.C. (WTVD) -- A woman who was forced to evacuate due to the wildfires in Western North Carolina found a wonderful surprise when she returned home.

In a post to the WLOS Facebook page, Shannon Wilson said she was evacuated for seven days as crews worked to contain fires around Lake Lure.

When she was able to go back home, she found that firefighters had taken her American flag down from her flag pole and placed it behind her glass door for protection.

"It made me have [goosebumps] the minute I realized what they did," she wrote.

The photo has been shared over 41,000 times since Wilson posted it.

As of Sunday morning, the size of the Party Rock Fire remains at 7171 acres with around 36 containment.
