It takes an army of cooks to make a Fort Bragg Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving prep is underway at Fort Bragg.

At the 82nd Airborne's First Brigade Combat dining facility, it's a full course press of preparations.

If you think you've got a lot of folks eating at your house for Thanksgiving, take a look at the menu for the troops at Ft. Bragg.

Slice up 3,600 pounds of turkey, 3,500 pounds of beef, 888 pounds of shrimp and Cornish hens, more than a ton of potatoes, 400 pounds of collards, 849 pies and cheesecakes, and two tons of fruits and nuts.



And hundreds of pounds of stuffing, and macaroni and cheese, and mountains of homemade corn bread and biscuits.

It's a labor of love for these food-service troops, who've been planning for this meal for more than a week.

"You've got to make sure the bottom is not sticking, and got to use your muscles," said Pfc Mackenzie Inman, a cook. "That's what it is all about; you got to work it."

Sgt. Michael Barham, the dining hall supervisor, said the troops enjoy preparing a good meal for the holiday.

"It gives them that extra bit of motivation," Barham said. "To know they're supporting their fellow soldiers, preparing a good meal for the holidays."

It not only has to taste good, it has to look good. The theme this year is a Charlie Brown Thanksgiving, complete with a real gingerbread house, and Snoopy sitting on his doghouse, gunning for the Red Baron.
