Wreaths Across America working to honor deceased veterans
A Raleigh woman is on a mission to make sure every tombstone at Raleigh National Cemetery has a wreath.

RALEIGH (WTVD) -- December 17 is Wreaths Across America Day.

Volunteers across the country put live Christmas wreaths on graves at veterans' cemeteries. But in the Triangle, not enough of the $15 wreaths have been bought. And thousands of veterans' graves could be empty through the holidays.

Sabreina Johnson was at a ceremony in Raleigh last year and saw all the graves without wreaths after the ceremony. She says it broke her heart.

"Looking at the tombstones that didn't have wreaths, knowing that my father was a Vietnam veteran and had passed away, I couldn't imagine being a family member and coming out here and my veteran not having a wreath," Johnson said. "Even though they're not here, they're not forgotten."

You can donate to make sure every veteran has a wreath this year. Wreaths are $15 and the deadline to donate is Monday, Nov. 28.
