Pictures from the scene showed crime scene tape up around a silver Airstream Travel Trailer.

Authorities said the cause of the fire was likely accidental and caused by smoking.

The Mebane Fire Department has identified the victim as 40-year-old Ted Brian Allred.

Earlier, family members said Allred, who went by Brian, was the victim. He lived in the camper behind his parents' home.

Brittany Handy, Allred's niece said his mom found him.

"I was just devastated, it was shocking. We were so close. He was like my second dad," Handy said.

Handy said her uncle was "such a good person."

"I didn't expect anything like this to happen to him. I know it could happen easily because it is a camper and it's very flammable," she added. "He was a loving person, a sweet person. He was here helping my grandparents because they're elderly. He always put people first. It's just very sad."
