Wake Forest police chase of shoplifting suspects ends in crash

Chase ends in crash, arrests in Wake Forest
Two men are hospitalized and awaiting charges upon their release.

WAKE FOREST, North Carolina (WTVD) -- Wake Forest Police were involved in a chase Friday that ended when two shoplifting suspects in a minivan crashed head first into another vehicle.

It happened shortly after 3:30 p.m. on Highway 98 near Galaxy Drive.

Police were responding to a larceny report at Walmart at 2114 S. Main St. when they spotted the suspects going north on South Main Street.

In an attempt to elude police, the minivan went left on to westbound Dr. Calvin Jones Highway/NC 98 Bypass. The minivan then crossed over the median and went the wrong way on eastbound Dr. Calvin Jones/NC 98 when it struck an oncoming car near Galaxy Drive.

The suspects were taken to WakeMed with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the other vehicle was also taken to WakeMed for treatment of minor injuries.

The suspects have been identified as Kendell James Belton, 29, and Charles Everett Green, 71, both of Columbia, South Carolina.

Upon their release from the hospital, Belton will be charged with Attempted Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Felony Flee to Elude Arrest, Felony Hit & Run, Aid & Abet Felony, Resist/Delay/Obstruct, Possession of marijuana, Aggressive driving, Left of center, and Red light violations.

Green will be charged with Obtaining Property by False Pretense, Larceny, and Possession of marijuana.
