Man shot in Raleigh
Residents say there have been other shootings in the neighborhood.

RALEIGH (WTVD) -- Raleigh police said a man was shot in the leg on Proctor Road and Liberty Place near I-40 and Rock Quarry Road Friday night.

The 18-year-old victim was taken to WakeMed for treatment. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

No arrests have been made.

Wanda Williams, who lives in the neighborhood and was home Friday afternoon, told ABC11 she heard four gunshots.

"A lot of times you just hear a lot of gunfire and things like that," she said of the violence she's witnessed in her neighborhood. "You don't know if it's fire crackers or what's going on but someone gets hurt."

Raleigh police records show this is the fifth shooting officers have responded to in the area within the last two years.

In mid-December of last year, neighbors on nearby Edwin Dr. found Brandon Sandy, 18, shot dead in a car. Raleigh police later charged another 18-year-old man with his murder.

Williams is hoping to one day open a community center for youth development to help put an end to violent crime where she lives.

"[To] retrain their thinking to harming each other," she said. "I don't know who shot this young man and I feel sorry for both of them. I'm hurt."
