Missing 12-year-old Wake County boy found

Owen Wycoff is escorted back to his family by Wake County law officers.

Authorities found Owen Wycoff hours after he was last seen around 2:30 p.m. Monday.

He was found safe and seemingly unharmed, police told ABC11.

The boy's father, Ramon Wycoff, told ABC11 that they family had recently moved to their eastern Wake County home from Raleigh and that Owen was attempting to walk to a friend's house, but got lost.

Owen ended up at the Church's Chicken restaurant on New Bern Avenue, where his dad says workers fed him and called authorities.

Ramon Wycoff said he was "super thankful" to all the deputies and neighbors and everyone who helped in the effort.

"Grateful to law enforcement for being responsive, friends, neighbors ... we are new to this area and people in our neighborhood came out to look for him," Ramon Wycoff said. "All is well, it's a very happy ending to a longer adventure than any of us wanted."

Officials said earlier that Owen was last seen wearing black pants with a green stripe, a gray hooded sweatshirt and gray tennis shoes.

Owen hadn't been seen since about 2:30 p.m. Monday afternoon in the 900 block of Riverview Road.

The search spanned nearly eight hours.
