Car collides with school bus north of Pittsboro

PITTSBORO, North Carolina (WTVD) -- A car slammed into the back of a school bus carrying 10 children on Highway 15-501 southbound near Pittsboro on Friday afternoon.

The crash happened near Mount Gilead Church Road.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol said 27-year-old Tia White, from Siler City, swerved to avoid a pickup and crashed into the school bus.

White is charged with failure to reduce speed and reckless driving. She suffered minor scrapes and bruises.

The children on the school bus were from an elementary school, but troopers did not say which school. No children were hurt in the crash. The bus driver also escaped injury.
