LOS ANGELES -- A bright meteor was seen flashing across Southern California skies Monday night.

Witnesses reported seeing a bright green flash streak across the sky for several seconds.

A woman in the San Diego area was video chatting with a friend when a meteor flashed across the sky.

The sight triggered reports of what was thought to be an airplane crash in Hesperia, but no wreckage was found.

Other Twitter users suspected that it could have been the result of some of military activity in the area, but the U.S. Department of Defense downplayed that possibility.

The bright light was reported across southern California at around 9 p.m. local time and was spotted as far east as Arizona.
