Iyana Peterson appears in court with her mother.

A teenage girl is accused of stabbing and throwing bleach on the face of another teenage girl.

Sixteen-year-old Iyana Peterson was arrested Saturday and charged with attacking 17-year-old Malaysia Bingham.

The teen's arrest warrant states she waited for Bingham to arrive at the park and then stabbed her before throwing a container of bleach at her face. Bingham suffered a 9-inch stab wound across her chest from the knife.

Bingham was taken to the hospital, but her condition hasn't been released.

Peterson was charged with assault with a deadly weapon and misdemeanor simple assault, and released into the custody of her mother.

She was brought to court by her mother Monday, and her mom nearly found herself behind bars after getting into a heated argument with the judge over bond conditions.

Cumberland County District Court Judge Talmage Baggett expressed concerns about releasing Peterson for fear she might get into another altercation with the victim.

But Peterson's mother said her daughter had been bullied at school.

Judge Baggett threatened to hold the woman in contempt after she repeatedly spoke out of turn, but eventually released Peterson back into the care of her mother.

Peterson is due back in court May 18.
