New York family demands answers after kicked off JetBlue flight

NEW YORK -- A Brooklyn family is demanding answers from JetBlue after being kicked off a flight from Florida to New York. Now, company officials say they may be banned from flying with the airline.

"Before you know it we were being kicked off the flight," said Mandy Ifrah, passenger.

What Ifrah thought was an easy flight back to New York from Fort Lauderdale turned into an apparent escalating situation on board a JetBlue flight back on July 2nd.

It began while she was holding her 1-year-old daughter in her lap.

"A 1-year-old child is going to kick, is going to cry, is going to scream," Ifrah said.

She kicked the seat of the passenger in front of her.

"She kicked her chair. She got up and moved to the next chair. She got a little bit annoyed. Everything was done with that. She looked at me and gave me a dirty look," Ifrah said.

Caught on cell phone video, Ifrah and her husband Tamir Raanan and their three children were approached by a JetBlue supervisor and ordered off their flight.

"What I need you to do right now is come with me outside the plane to have a discussion," the supervisor said in the video.

"I need to get back to New York. I need to get my kids back home. Did anything happen? No. Did anything physical happen? This is ridiculous," Ifrah said on the video.

In a statement JetBlue officials said, "After a verbal altercation that included physical threats and profanities against a nearby customer, the aircraft door was reopened and our airports team politely asked the customers to step off to discuss the situation."

"What about them? You are not going to work with them? They tell me to tie my kids' feet. You should tie my kids' feet because they are kicking the seat," Ifrah said on the video.

Everyone was eventually escorted off the plane including the family where they again pressed the supervisor for answers.

"Can you give me a reason? Why not? Why not? You were...Give me a reason. Why not? I want the reason. I'm talking to you nicely," Ifrah said on the video.

This went on for another six minutes, then police stepped in.

"They are kicking you off the plane. Whether it's right or it's wrong, it's their plane. They can do whatever they want to do. That doesn't mean you don't have any recourse," an officer said in the video.

JetBlue officials went on to say, "Law enforcement escorted them out of the gate area and we provided a refund."

"Never in a million years thought that that would be a reason that they would use to kick us off the flight," Ifrah said. "But other than that there is nothing else, nothing that happened that would give them a reason to kick us off the flight.

The family's lawyer, David Templer, released a statement calling JetBlue "unprofessional."

"It is not remotely possible that a mother traveling with a 1-year-old on her lap and two toddlers would have the gumption to behave like that in front of her kids," he said.
