The Durham Police Department is investigating a shooting that left a man seriously hurt Friday morning.

It happened just after 9 a.m. on Hill Street near University Drive - south of Hwy 147.

Police said 28-year-old David Deyon Woods was shot in the driver's seat of a 2005 Toyota Camry. His injuries were described as non-life-threatening.

A second man in the car, 24-year-old Devacea Navarea Bass of Durham, got out and ran and was found by police a short time later. He was not hurt.

The victims said they were parked in the Camry when a man shot at them from an SUV. He was described as a black male with a light complexion and small twists in his hair. He appeared to be in his 20s.

The shooting does not appear to have been random, according to investigators.

Officers learned that the Camry had been reported stolen on August 2.

Bass was arrested and charged with possession of a stolen motor vehicle and resisting, delaying and obstructing officers. He was placed in Durham County jail without bond.

Woods is facing charges of larceny of a motor vehicle, possession of a stolen motor vehicle, larceny and larceny of a dog (a 3-month-old pit bull). The dog, vehicle and other items were all taken from the same person.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Investigator Crabtree at (919) 560-4583, ext. 29356 or CrimeStoppers at (919) 683-1200. CrimeStoppers pays cash rewards for information leading to arrests in felony cases and callers never have to identify themselves.
