Solar eclipse themed treats and cocktails on tap in Raleigh
RALEIGH (WTVD) -- Solar eclipse themed treats and cocktails are on tap at several local locations as rooftop bars and restaurants in downtown Raleigh are gearing up for host parties for the celestial event.
"What a great excuse to get of off work early, and come and enjoy the outdoors. It's a once in a lifetime event, probably for most of us," said LM Restaurants Corporate Affairs Director Tannia Doughtery.
Taverna Agora is whipping up a flambeed moon-shaped fried cheese dish, called Saganaki.
Bartenders there are also serving up cosmic cocktails. One is called "Helios," which is Greek word for sun, and it is fiery red cocktail thanks to the grenadine. You could also sip on a creamy "Solartini," made with Godiva Chocalate, while soaking in the eclipse.
Recipe for Helios
Highball with crushed ice
1 1/4 ounce Tequila
1 oz St. Germaine
2 oz Pineapple Juice
Splash of Grenadine
Garnish with slice of Lemon or Orange
Recipe for Solartini
Chilled Martini Glass
Start with a chilled Martini Glass. Swirl sides of glass with Chocolate syrup
Ingredients:
Mix ingredients together and froth:
2 ounces of heavy cream
1 ounce Godiva Chocolate Liquor
1/2 ounce Crme De Cacao
1/2 ounce Vodka
Rimmer/Garnish:
Mix Sugar in Raw, Ground Chocolate Chips and Cocoa Powder
Rim the glass with the blended mixture. Garnish with Chips and Cocoa Powder
The Hiberian Group is preparing for 7 affairs, including one at the Raleigh Beer Garden and Hibernian on Glenwood South.
Staff are taking reservations and offering one of the hottest commodities in town. The Hiberian Group has ordered hundreds of solar glasses and will be handing them out to folks who attend the rooftop parties.
"There's been a big response over the past," explained Hibernian Group owner Niall Hanley.
The owner is going big after missing an eclipse experience himself years ago.
"I have never seen one. We had one in Ireland about 15 years ago and I was there for it, but of course in Ireland it was raining and there were clouds. For the first time ever I'm in North Carolina. It's going to hopefully be beautiful clear skies and it'll be a great day out," said Hanley. (You can check the latest forecast for Monday here.)
10th & Terrace at Residence Inn Downtown Raleigh is also hosting an affair. It runs 1:30-3:30. Tickets are just $10 and include a complimentary Sunshine energy drink, desserts from Lucettegrace, and NASA-approved eclipse safety glasses.
