MISSOURI CITY, Texas -- Sugar Creek Baptist Church in Missouri City, Texas, is sponsoring a weekend-long effort to help those impacted by flooding in Sienna Plantation.

The Labor Day of Love event kicked off at 8 a.m. on Saturday, as volunteers worked to help homeowners clean up damage caused by Hurricane Harvey.

"We're going to be walking in, we're going to be wading in, we might be boating in," pastor Libin Abraham told ABC11's sister station in Houston, ABC13. "I don't know how we're getting in, but we're going to get into homes and be hands to help them."

Parts of the subdivision were left under several feet of water after Hurricane Harvey dumped record amounts of rain across the region, spurring a mandatory evacuation order ahead of the impending flash flood.

Days before, a small tornado from Harvey's outer bands damaged dozens of homes in the neighborhood.
