Teen charged in hit and run near Wake Forest High School

WAKE FOREST, North Carolina (WTVD) -- A Wake Forest teen is facing multiple charges after police say she struck another teen with her car on the way to school.

Around 7 a.m. Wednesday, officers were called to the intersection of Stadium Drive and Rock Spring Road, which is right in front of Wake Forest High School.

That's where police say witnesses saw Georgia Prosser, 17, walking within the crosswalk across Stadium Drive with two friends. They said Kendall Erin Moore, 16, was stopped in her car; she then accelerated making a left turn on to Rock Spring Road, striking Prosser.

According to authorities, Moore had initially left the scene without stopping but returned a short time later. She has been charged with hit and run, failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk, and unsafe movement violation.

Prosser was transported to WakeMed with non-life-threatening injuries.

Both teens are students at Wake Forest High School.

Bill Crabtree, a spokesman for the Wake Forest Police Department, said for the next week and a half, an officer will be stationed near the intersection in the mornings and afternoons, hoping drivers will see the officer and slow down.

Crabtree said in Wednesday morning's incident, the driver was distracted.

"Maybe this can be a wake-up call for our community," Crabtree said. "We avoided a tragedy today."

The Town of Wake Forest is also asking the NC Department of Transportation to remark the crosswalk to make it more defined and visible.
