Remnants of Irma disrupt travel at RDU Airport

Many flights were canceled or delayed, and some travelers re-routed to RDU.

The departure boards at Raleigh-Durham International Airport are still being impacted due to Irma, now a post-tropical cyclone.

Southwest Airlines 6 a.m. flight to Atlanta, Georgia was canceled, same for the 7:30 a.m. flight to Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

On Monday, 4,200 flights were canceled because of Irma.

Some people affected by the storm rerouted their flights to RDU. Most major Florida airports were shut down Monday.

ABC11 met a group of young women traveling from Denver.

Their flight home to Orlando had been canceled, so the trio decided to fly to RDU, rent a car, and drive home to Florida.

Most of the passengers we spoke to said they were able to get to RDU with no major issues.

But there were a few folks who said Irma disrupted their travel.

Fayetteville Regional Airport canceled American and Delta flights on Monday because of the conditions in Charlotte and Atlanta.

The best advice is to always call ahead to your air carrier or sign up for text alerts to keep track of any delays or cancellations.
