Irma gone but not forgotten for NC State players

RALEIGH, North Carolina (WTVD) -- Hurricane Irma has come through Florida and left behind destroyed homes and millions of people without power. People's lives are turned upside down.

The impact has also been felt in college football with games being canceled this weekend in the state of Florida.

About a dozen players on NC State's roster are from Florida. NC State wide receiver Stephen Louis is from West Palm Beach, and is one who felt impact from Irma.

Louis told ABC11 that a tree fell on his family's house in Florida, but no major damage. Hurricane Irma was definitely on his mind last week.

"A lot of us were like worried going into the game, but with him (Dave Doeren, head coach), he told us he'll take care of us to make sure that everything is alright," Louis told us after practice Tuesday. "It helped us go out there and play free."

Another player impacted was defensive back Shawn Boone.

Head coach Dave Doeren noted at his Monday press conference, that Boone's ceiling in their house in West Palm Beach, Florida, fell in, but everyone is safe.

Louis called his dad. "The first thing my dad told me was, 'don't worry, just go out there and play. Everything back here is going to be alright,' "

NC State (1-1) is at home to Furman this week.

As Louis said, the support he received from teammates, Dave Doeren, and family back in Florida, allowed him to play free.
