Orange County's Hog Day festival raising money for hurricane relief

ORANGE COUNTY (WTVD) -- The Hog Day festival is alive and well. Now managed by the Orange County Optimist Club, the festival is celebrating its 35th year by helping raise money for hurricane relief this week.

The Orange County Optimist Club will be raising money to help those in need in Texas, Louisiana, and Florida. It comes after Hurricane Harvey first made landfall on August 25, and Hurricane Irma hit Florida last weekend.

Proceeds from the Pig's on Parade contest will support the National Optimist Hurricane Relief Fund.

The festival will feature a large children's area, over 100 vendors including some of the top arts and crafts. They also cook over three tons of BBQ by top cooking teams.

Special features like gem mining and special celebrity appearances are part of the festival. There are several new additions to this year's festival, including the return of the car show and dessert contest.

Hillsborough Hog Day will be held Friday from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. along East Margaret Lane in Hillsborough. Admission is free.
