RALEIGH, North Carolina (WTVD) -- If you've ever sat in traffic during your morning commute wishing there was a way to magically transport to work you'll want to participate in "Try Transit Week." The event runs from September 18 - 22. Throughout the week Go Triangle will offer lots of fun ways to move around the area.

Among the perks of giving mass transit a try, you can play transit BINGO, win prizes, take free rides and get free bike checks.

If you've tried using the mass transit system before and didn't find a convenient route for you that may have changed. Due to increased funding more routes have been added providing new options for commuters. If there isn't a stop near your home you can still ditch the car by utilizing one of the 19 Go Triangle park and ride lots. Before you head out the door you can find the best route for you by logging onto the website or app and get real-time estimates on when the bus will be arriving at your stop.

Here is a list of just some of the ways Go Triangle is giving back to commuters next week:

  • Tuesday, Sept. 19, follow @GoTriangle on Twitter to find out more about popular destinations in your city.
  • Thursday, Sept. 21, all GoTriangle, GoDurham, GoRaleigh, and GoCary routes will be free. This is to encourage first-time riders to try the bus. It's also Rider Appreciation Day at GoTriangle and GoDurham. This is also the last day to turn in your Transit Bingo card, which you can find online at or at the RTC or Durham Station.
  • Friday, Sept. 22, it's Car-free day! It's also driver Appreciation Day - GoCary management will select the Best Drivers of the Year for fixed route and Door-to-Door services.
