The fire destroyed a 4,600-square-foot home, Wake County Fire Department officials said. Nobody was home at the time and there were no injuries.

"When we arrived on the scene, we had a ... house that was fully involved, two-story," said Fire Chief Barry Spain of the Fairview Fire Department. "We had a collapse, as far as the structure collapsing."

Six fire companies responded to the fire.

Spain said firefighters quickly assessed the situation and realized they had to take a defensive approach, as about 70 percent of the structure was engulfed in flames.

Firefighters don't yet know the cause of the blaze.

The second fire call came when the house fire spread to the woods behind the home. Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish that fire.

Late Thursday night, firefighters were still on the scene. The fire remains under investigation.

No firefighters were hurt.
