Crews search for possible missing boater on Harris Lake

WAKE COUNTY (WTVD) -- Multiple crews searched Monday for a possible missing boater on Harris Lake.

The Wake County Sheriff's Office said it received a call just before 2 p.m. Monday afternoon about reports of a possible person overboard near the 4400 block of Bartley Holleman Road.

The caller said they heard a voice coming from the direction of the boat. However, he went to check and said no one was on the vessel.

Deputies said the boat is registered to 53-year-old Ellis Rodney McCoy, of Fuquay-Varina, but they are not sure if he was the person on the boat.

However, family members said he was supposed to be out on the water.

Authorities suspended the search Monday night because of darkness, but later resumed searching Tuesday morning.
