4-year-old hit, killed by car in Durham
No charges to be filed after a child was struck by a car in the 3500 block of Dearborn Drive Monday around 9:30 p.m.

DURHAM (WTVD) -- Durham police say a four-year-old child hit by a car Monday evening has died.

It happened around 9:30 p.m. in the 3500 block of Dearborn Drive, which is off of Old Oxford Road.

Investigators said Jeri Dee Quick darted into the road into the path of a westbound car. The child had been playing in a yard when she saw her father pull into a parking lot across the street and ran to meet him.

She died early Tuesday morning at the hospital.

Quick's aunt told ABC11 the little girl had just turned four years old and Monday was her first day of school.

"She was excited about seeing her dad so she wanted to go across the street to tell him about her first day," explained Ashanti Ward. "My husband kept saying no but it was too late because the car came across the hill. It hit her."

Police said alcohol and speed were not factors in the accident and no charges are expected to be filed.
