CARY, N.C. (WTVD) -- Dr Allan Acton has a busy practice at Cary Family Dental, but he still finds time once a year to open his doors for a free dental clinic

"I think we're just blessed to have a skill set to be able to give back to the community," Acton explained. "It's a lot of fun to be able to help people out with something that we do routinely, but some people really suffer a long time."

Many dental issues do go untreated. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services estimates 108 million Americans live without dental insurance.

However, that will change for dozens this weekend when Dr. Acton and about 10 other dentists partner with the nonprofit, Dentistry From The Heart, holding a free dental clinic at Cary Family Dental on Saturday.

"You can get your teeth cleaned by our hygienists or you can have a tooth fixed," said Acton. "That means you can come in and tell us and we can either fix it with a filling or if it needs to come out we'll get it extracted for you."

While Acton is expecting a big turnout, the first 100 patients are guaranteed to be treated.

"It's a first-come, first-served for at least the first 100," he said. "And, in the past we've been able to see more than that. We've seen almost 500 people over the last four years. So, hopefully, we'll be able to see even more this year."

Cary Family Dental's free clinic runs Saturday, April 23 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
