Police say bullets shot into a home on Parkview Street hit a child who later died.

WILSON, N.C. (WTVD) -- Police say a 7-year-old boy hit by bullets fired into a home in the 400-block of Parkview Street just before 10 p.m. Wednesday has died.

Video from the scene showed a car parked near the home with a shattered window, indicating multiple shots were fired.

Investigators said Kamari Jones was rushed to Vidant Medical Center for treatment, but they announced the boy had died early Thursday morning.

They did not say if they believe the home where the child was shot was the intended target of the shooters or if they have any suspects.

"This is a quiet and outstanding community where they look out for each other, so it kind of surprised me, and for a child to be involved, this baby won't go back to school," said neighbor Michael Campbell.

Several neighbors reportedly called 911 after hearing the unmistakable sounds of gunshots.

"Oh yes, it went pop pop pow, pow pow pow pow - sounded like 6 maybe 7," said Joe "Tex" Brown.

While he heard the shots, Brown said he didn't see anything. The Wilson Police Department asks anyone with information regarding the case to contact CrimeStoppers at (252) 243-2255 or (252) 399-2323.
