GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Skye Bolt drove in two runs to help North Carolina beat North Carolina State 4-3 in an Atlantic Coast Conference tournament elimination game.

The seventh-seeded and reigning champion Tar Heels (33-23) advanced Tuesday to pool play to face second-seeded Florida State on Wednesday.

Brett Austin had three hits for the 10th-seeded Wolfpack (32-23), who began the year ranked No. 5 by Baseball America and hoped to return to the College World Series. But N.C. State is uncertain to make the NCAA tournament.

N.C. State stranded 11 runners and came out on the short end of a controversial play in which Trea Turner was called out while stealing home in the fifth. Coach Elliott Avent angrily confronted umpire Mark Chapman, while replays showed Turner appeared to beat the tag.

Reliever Zach Rice (2-2) earned the win, while starter Eric Peterson (4-4) took the loss after leaving early trailing 4-1.
