There's a crime alert in Apex after a brazen robbery in the middle of the night.

APEX, N.C. (WTVD) -- There's a crime alert in Apex after a brazen robbery in the middle of the night.

Police have released a drawing of the suspect who they say is wanted for an armed robbery that happened early Tuesday morning.

It happened on Gables Gate Court.

Police said the man robbed the victim at gunpoint as the person got out of their car after getting home.

"He was told to get on the ground, had a gun very close to him and was told he was going to get his head blown," said neighbor Colleen Hale

The attack happened in the victim's driveway. It was early morning, he just got home from work and was heading inside.

"He was getting his stuff out of the car and turned around and this guy comes up and says 'Excuse me sir' and then pulled out a gun," said Hale.

The robber got away with the victim's laptop, cell phone, and wallet Tuesday. The victim was not hurt, and he was able to get a look at the armed robber. Police composed a sketch based on the information given.

The suspect is described as a black male, 5'9" to 5'11", 30-40 years of age, with a medium build. He was wearing dark clothing and a dark toboggan.

Investigators have been canvassing Gables Gate Court and were out Friday night searching for the robber.

"[They] shine their spotlights into people's backyards I guess to see if they can see anybody walking around," said resident Mike Perry.

In the meantime, this frightened community came together and held a safety meeting.

"We're going to be proactive and everybody's going to keep their lights on, put more security features in, so were make sure that this sort of thing does not happen again," said Hale.

In a 911 call to police, the 38-year-old victim told police his attacker was wearing dark clothing and a toboggan.

"I just got home from work," he told dispatchers. "I got out of my car, a guy walked up to me, pointed a gun at me and said he'd shoot me, pointed a gun at me and said 'Give me your wallet.'"

Five days later, Apex police were called back to the Sunset Hills subdivision. A woman reported a prowler in the neighborhood. Police records show she saw a man wearing a hoodie, peeking over her fence on Thorncrest Drive. She told police it happened twice Sunday night.

Police are still working to develop leads in both cases.

Anyone with information on the crime or the suspect should call the Apex Police Department at (919) 362-8661.
