CLINTON, N.C. (WTVD) -- A resident of Sampson County called 911 Monday around 8:30 p.m. to report a low-flying aircraft in the Basstown community, which is north of Clinton.

The caller reported an aircraft flying unusually low near the treetops as if it were landing or possibly crashing.

Two fire departments and Sampson County EMS and Sheriff's Office units canvassed the area, but no downed aircraft was located.

Officials contacted the FAA and nearby military installations to ensure that no aircraft were missing.
