Woman critically injured in Orange County shooting
Orange County deputies are investigating the shooting of a woman at a motel.

ORANGE COUNTY, N.C. (WTVD) -- Orange County deputies are investigating the shooting of a woman at a motel.

It happened Wednesday around 4:50 p.m. at the Scottish Inn on U.S. Highway 70 near Interstate 85 and the Durham County line.

When they arrived, deputies found Amber Leigh Gottschalk of Durham County lying in the parking lot suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

She was transported to a local hospital, where her condition was described as critical.

With evidence and statements collected at the scene, the Orange County Sheriff's Office said it has charged Shenandoah Freeman of Durham County with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill.

Freeman was taken into custody by Raleigh police shortly after the shooting during an unrelated traffic stop. Freeman was already wanted in Durham County on kidnapping and assault charges.
