DURHAM (WTVD) -- Authorities say the body of a missing Durham priest has been found in Orange County.

The body has been identified as Kent Torrey Hinkson, 71, who was reported missing on Monday.

Officials told ABC11 the body was found in Eno River State Park early Sunday morning.

Hinkson's family confirmed the devastating news on their website.

The State Bureau of Investigation has a suspect in custody. Matthew John Reed, 36, has been charged with first-degree murder and is in the Orange County Jail.

Monday, Hinkson's wife, Jeline, called 911 after he failed to return home from running errands. That same evening police picked up his cellphone signal, and Wednesday a tip led detectives to his car, which they discovered about five miles from his Woodcroft neighborhood.

Hinkson had served as a priest at All Saints Church for about two years.

Hinkson's body has been sent to the State Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy.

The case is being handled by the SBI, but the Durham Police Department is assisting with the investigation.
