WARRENTON, N.C. (WTVD) -- A boil water notice is in effect in Warrenton after an early-morning water main break left the entire town without water Sunday.

The break in a 10-inch water line happened at the corner of Brehon and Fairview streets, according to The Warren Record. Utility repair crews arrived around 5 a.m.

Hydrants near the break are being flushed, according to town officials. People who live near the site of the break should expect to see water service restored first, and service should be restored to most customers Sunday.

People who rely on town water should boil tap water before drinking it, cooking with it, or brushing their teeth until further notice.

They should also run cold water through their lines while sediment clears from the water, advised Town Public Works Director Bill Perkinson. He also said they should run a cold water rinse in washing machines before washing laundry, and remove aerators on the ends of their spigots.

People will be notified when the boil water notice has expired.
