RALEIGH (WTVD) -- The boy who was shot in the neck with an arrow by his older brother has died.

The incident happened around 12:45 p.m. on March 15th at a home on Swift Creek Lane.

Deputies said 7-year-old Daniel Velazquez was hit with an arrow by his 11-year-old brother.

The child was taken to WakeMed, where he died three days later.

The boys' uncle, Javier Velazquez, told ABC11 shortly after the incident happened that the boys' parents were home at the time of the accident. He said the brothers got hold of the weapon and were fooling around with the arrow.

"They were playing. It was an accident," said Velazquez.

According to a 911 call by the boys' mother, the 7-year-old "was shot in the throat" by the arrow.

She told the operator that her son had a bow and arrow and he was shooting at things in the woods when the incident happened.

A funeral for Daniel Velazquez is being held Thursday at Williford Funeral Home in Fuquay-Varina.

The Wake County Sheriff's Office is still investigating the incident.
