Cary's police chief retires after 29 years of service

CARY, N.C. -- Cary's Police Chief retired Friday after nearly three decades of service to the community.
At a retirement party held for Patricia Bazemore, she detailed some of the challenges she had starting her career.
"At 17 years old, I had my first child. I was a high school dropout. A lot of people don't know that about me," Bazemore told the crowd. "I was destined to be a mother that was on welfare and taking care of my baby. But there was something in me that just would not let that happen. Because I could not fail her that way."
Bazemore was Cary's first female chief of police. She said she plans to focus on her family, hike, and volunteer in the community.
