DURHAM (WTVD) -- A Durham mom is devastated after thieves stole all the Christmas gifts she bought for her kids.

Police said someone broke into Elizabeth Wall's house on Holloway Street sometime over the weekend while the family was away. They took a TV, electronics, and clothes for her three children.

"The gifts for the kids were the biggest thing for me because I'm in between jobs right now. My family helped me pulled together a nice Christmas for these guys, and someone can just come in and take it away in five minutes," said Wall.

Wall said the thieves broke in through her back door. They even toppled the family Christmas tree before taking off with the goods.

Police do not have any suspects in the burglary.

All Wall has left for her children are a couple of gifts she brought home from her mother.

She said she still plans to celebrate Christmas with or without presents.

"We're here together as a family, and that's what Christmas is all about, but it's just really sad that someone comes in and takes something away from some kids. It's heartbreaking," she said.

The story has a happy ending after all.

Wall received some generous gifts from some ABC11 viewers.

A local author and retired math teacher from Cary, was so touched by the family's story that she decided to write them a $1,000 check.

She delivered it to the family on Christmas morning.

Wall said she plans to take her children shopping for Christmas gifts Friday.

In addition to the author, other ABC11 viewers helped out the family as well to make sure they had a Merry Christmas after all.
