Amer Mahmood's family wants him to be remembered as a devoted father and husband

DURHAM (WTVD) -- The family of the clerk who was killed on Saturday wants the public to remember him as a good man, a devoted father, and a loyal husband.

Amer Mahmood, 48, was gunned down during a robbery at the Joy Food Mart in Durham.

Mahmood's family set up a Go Fund Me page to help pay for his funeral. One of his loved ones contacted ABC11 on Sunday and told us Mahmood's wife and children live in Arizona.

The family member told ABC11 that his wife and children have no means to travel. They also hope to send Mahmood's body back to his home country of Pakistan.

The man accused of killing Mahmood, Dmarlo Johnson, is being held at the Durham County Jail without bond.

The N.C. State Bureau of Investigation has been asked to review the shooting along with the Durham Police Department's Professional Standards Division and Criminal Investigations Division.
