OAK ISLAND, NC (WTVD) -- The Coast Guard rescued 10 people Thursday after their 22-foot pontoon boat started taking on water near Bald Head Island.

Officials say the boat ran into oncoming waves while attempting to cross the Cape Fear River entrance.

One boater fell overboard.

A good Samaritan notified the Coast Guard at 10:40 a.m. and Coast Guard NC Sector "Watchstanders" diverted a life boat and a response boat to the area.

The Coast Guard located the pontoon boat at approximately 10:45 a.m., rescued one boater from the water, and transferred the remaining nine boaters to the life boat.

The boaters were taken to Coast Guard Station Oak Island. Crews used pumps to remove the water from the pontoon boat and towed it to the station.

None of the boaters were seriously injured.
