Operation Coming Home delivered the keys to a combat veteran's new home

HOLLY SPRINGS, NC (WTVD) -- Staff Sgt. Brandan Taylor is the newest recipient of Operation Coming Home's 13th "Hero Home."

He was honored in a ceremony in Holly Springs Thursday.

The Marine was injured in 2014, during one of his seven deployments. He has severe back, spine, and knee injuries and wears leg braces. He also uses a wheelchair for a couple of hours a day. His new Holly Springs home has modifications just for him such as wider hallways and a special shower.

"It's just going to be tremendous with the grab bars and the wide doors for my wheel chair," Taylor said. "It's going to be such a help."

Thursday, a parachute landed with keys to the new 3,300 square foot house for Taylor, his wife Chelsey, their 2-year-old twins Logan and Jordan, and 7-year-old son Dylan.

Operation Coming Home is led by the Home Builders Association of Raleigh-Wake County and US Veterans Corps. It partners with builder CalAtlantic Homes.

Taylor was selected after an application and interview process.

"These people went above and beyond to make sure that he feels comfortable in the house," Chelsey said.

She says the outpouring sends a message.

"It shows him and shows every Marine out there that has given something that it is worth fighting for," she said.
