National Night Out is an effort to build safer and better neighborhoods through community involvement

FAYETTEVILLE, NC (WTVD) -- Many communities marked National Night Out Tuesday with events aimed at building safer and better neighborhoods through community involvement.

The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office and the Fayetteville Police Department took part in Fayetteville.

Similar events were held in Raleigh, Durham, and Wake Forest along with other cities and towns across the state.

National Night Out always occurs on the first Tuesday in August.
