CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (WTVD) -- Authorities at UNC-Chapel Hill have issued a crime alert on campus after an armed robbery Friday night.

Two Carolina students had their iPhones and wallets stolen. One victim told ABC11 they were walking on campus meeting up with friends when they were jumped. It happened right behind Memorial Hall.

Police say the robbers reportedly had guns, shoved their victims to the ground, snatched the valuables, and took off running towards Franklin Street.

"It's pretty surprising something like that would happened especially so aggressive when no one is here," said student Benjamin Twery.

"It's scary," said student Sophie Ravanbahkt. "I mean, I have class right over there late at night. I don't get out until 8 o'clock so to see that that happens during the summer at least it's shocking."

There are cameras close to where the armed robbery occurred and police are reviewing the video.

Police say the armed robbers are 25 to 30-years-old. One is described as heavy set, about 6' and has scruffy facial hair. The other has a thin build, stands about 6'2", and has thick hair, possibly dread locks or braids.

The victims were not injured.
