Crowds gather to support local law enforcement
Gatherings in support of local police officers took place in Wake Forest and Durham Saturday.

Dozens of people showed their support for the hardworking members of our local law enforcement Saturday.

An event at the Wake Forest Town Hall was a chance for residents to thank members of the Wake Forest Police Department.

In Durham, a group of supporters gathered outside police headquarters for the same reason.

More than a hundred of them, including many family members of Durham police officers, showed up with signs thanking the department for their service.

"When someone gets sick or hurt, these are the men and women who help them...support our local officers," said Angela Wiggins, the wife of an officer.

Durham Police Chief Jose Lopez also attended the event.

Organizers are encouraging others to give gift cards to officers as a token of appreciation.
