Cumberland County assisting families with cooling costs
The Cumberland County Department of Social Services is offering up to $600 in assistance for families who need help paying for energy costs.

FAYETTEVILLE (WTVD) -- The Cumberland County Department of Social Services is offering up to $600 in assistance for families who need help paying for energy costs.

The department, through the Salvation Army, began accepting applications on Monday for the Crisis Intervention Program. Funds for the bi-annual program are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Applications are accepted at the Salvation Army, located on 1047 Southern Avenue in Fayetteville. They may be turned in Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

To meet eligibility for the program, a household income must be equal to or less than 150-percent of the current poverty level, be home to a U.S. citizen or eligible alien and be in crisis. Someone experiencing health-related issues due to a lack of air conditioning would qualify as a crisis.
