Dad takes unique approach to keeping his son's grades up
Air Jordans have a retail price of anywhere between $100 to $400, but one Fayetteville father is all about the books.

FAYETTEVILLE (WTVD) -- Air Jordans have a retail price of anywhere between $100 to $400, but one Fayetteville father is all about the books.

Kurin Keys used his son's Jordans to drive home a point about education.

Keys admits his plan may seem extreme, and expensive, but he says getting his 14-year-old son's grades up to As is worth it.

The teen goes to school every day wearing the message "my grades matter" in permanent ink on his expensive shoes.

Keys said his son, an eighth grader, started taking more interest in friends, girls, and social media. His grades dropped from As and Bs to some Cs and Ds.

Keys said he's not trying to punish or humiliate his son -- just motivate him to do better.

Keys is printing t-shirts with the message. His YouTube video has gone viral with more than a million hits. He's gotten mostly positive comments from other parents and teachers.

He says his son has to wear the shoes, and t-shirt every day until his grades improve.
