Jesus Mora was charged with second degree murder

CUMBERLAND COUNTY, N.C. (WTVD) -- A man has been charged with murder after his wife was found dead in Cumberland County.

Law enforcement said it happened early Saturday morning in the 8900 block of Steeplechase Drive. Authorities said Jesus Mora called 911 but would not say why he needed help. Deputies and EMS were dispatched to the home.

When deputies arrived, they found Jesus Mora in a neighbor's driveway, according to authorities. Jesus Mora and the deputies went to Mora's house to find out what was happening.

When a deputy entered the residence, they saw a woman on the floor not moving. Deputies said it was clear to them that the woman was not alive.

Detectives identified the victim as Mary Louise Mora, Jesus Mora's wife.

Deputies said Mary Louise Mora had several visible wounds, and Jesus Mora could not explain how she had been injured.

Detectives interviewed family and friends and charged Jesus Mora with second degree murder.

Randy Langdon lives in the neighborhood where the murder happened and says he saw Mora standing in a driveway waiting for authorities to arrived.

"[He] was shaken, very disturbed," said Langdon. "I thought it was just odd at the time but now looking back, it's kind of scary."

ABC11 has learned Mary Mora leaves behind an 18-year-old daughter from a previous marriage.

Jesus Mora is being held in the Cumberland County Jail. His first court appearance is Feb. 8.
