Deputy rescues toddler found running on busy Oregon freeway
A deputy sprang into action when he saw a 2-year-old boy running in the middle of traffic on a busy highway in Newport, Oregon. The scene was all caught on dash-cam video.

NEWPORT, Ore. -- A sheriff's deputy sprang into action when he saw a 2-year-old boy running in the middle of traffic on a busy highway in Newport, Oregon. The scene was all caught on dash-cam video.

The little boy had managed to slip away from a gathering at a nearby community center around 9 p.m. on Jan. 9 and ran straight to the 101 Freeway. His frantic parents were searching for him.

Thankfully, the toddler was rescued by the deputy and returned to his parents. Sheriff's officials said they determined the incident was an accident, and no criminal charges were filed.

The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office said they posted the video to Facebook in order to send a message about distracted driving - always be alert because you never know when the unexpected will happen.
