Driver accused of slapping special needs child
RALEIGH (WTVD) -- A woman who drives for a company that contracts with Wake County Public Schools to provide transportation for special needs children is accused of assaulting a 7-year-old boy.
According to court records, Antoinette Lavon Alston, 41 of Wake Forest, works for Reese's Transportation. She's accused of "aggressively slapping the victim on his arms and hands" in September.
A spokesperson said an administrator at Sycamore Creek Elementary was notified by a parent of concerns about the driver and the school worked with the Raleigh Police Department to investigate.
"We have a strict expectation that Reese's Transportation will safely transport our students to and from school each day. Anything that compromises the safety of our students is unacceptable," said the spokesperson.
Alston is charged with assault on a child under 12, misdemeanor child abuse, and assault on a handicapped person.
