DURHAM (WTVD) -- Durham police have arrested a man in connection with a shooting that injured two people in downtown Durham early Wednesday and prompted a police standoff.

The shooting happened around 3:30 a.m. in the 700 block of Holloway Street.

A driver and a passenger were shot while in a vehicle, and then drove about 2 miles away to the 2400 block of Owen Street.

Authorities said both victims, who are in their 20's, were taken to the hospital for treatment. Their names have not been released, but police did say that one of them was listed in critical condition, while the other was stable.

A short time later, officers were told that a possible suspect may have barricaded himself inside a four-unit apartment building on Holloway Street.

Authorities blocked the roadway, near Alston Avenue and Elizabeth Street, and evacuated three of the apartments, along with two nearby homes, in an attempt to get the suspect out.

Neighbors told ABC11 that they had heard five or six gunshots in the area earlier in the morning.

"I don't like it," resident Terry Kelly said. "I didn't expect this in this neighborhood. Seemed to be pretty fair and nice when I moved here. You know, nice and quiet."

Around 8 a.m., the standoff ended with police arresting 31-year-old Andrew Demar Holman, of Holloway Street.

"The person in custody actually surrendered peacefully," said Wil Glenn, public affairs manager for the Durham Police Department.

Holman has been charged with two counts of attempted murder, one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and one count of discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle.

He is currently being held in the Durham County Jail under a $2 million bond.
