GARNER, N.C. (WTVD) -- An explosion sent sheriff's deputies to a home in the Garner area of Johnston County early Thursday morning in the second meth lab bust in the county in two days.

The explosion was reported in the 2000 block of Southfort Drive around 6:30 a.m.

Investigators said Carl Hall Jr., 31, was cooking meth when the chemicals exploded. Hall's girlfriend, Victoria Rae Harrigan, 30, was driving him to the hospital but had a flat tire on the way. They contacted EMS workers who in turn notified law enforcement.

Hall was seriously hurt and is recovering at the hospital. Harrigan was arrested.

A neighbor, who didn't want to give her name, told ABC11 a couple was renting the home from her friend.

"I'm shocked," said the neighbor. "She [friend] is just beside herself. I mean, why is this happening in her house and that kind of thing. She had no idea."

Wednesday evening, Chopper 11 HD was high above another home on Thistle Drive.

Authorities said an 8-year-old child was inside the house as her mom, dad, and another man were mixing hazardous chemicals to make meth. The child is now in the care of protective services.

The 8-year-old's mom, 34-year-old Jennifer Wyand, and dad, 31-year-old Van Buren Killette, were arrested. 51-year-old Leslie Houser was also placed in custody.
