FAYETTEVILLE (WTVD) -- Investigators in Fayetteville are looking for the person who spray-painted a memorial to fallen officers in front of the Fayetteville Police Department early Wednesday.

The paint was put on the monument and a window on the side of the building.

In a news release, the department called the person a "coward."

"This senseless act is even more appalling to the men and women who wear the badge as it happened just a little over a week after we honored the memory of our most recent Fallen Hero, Officer Roy Gene Turner Jr.," the department said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Fayetteville Police Department at (910) 433-1856 or Crimestoppers at (910) 483-TIPS (8477). Crimestoppers information can also be submitted electronically, by visiting http://fay-nccrimestoppers.org and completing the anonymous online tip sheet or by text-a-tip on your mobile device by sending a message to 274637 (in the text box type "4Tip" followed by your message).
