Vigil remembers victims of domestic violence
In Cumberland County, 2016 statewide victims of domestic violence are being remembered.

FAYETTEVILLE (WTVD) -- Victims of domestic violence in North Carolina were remembered at a candlelight vigil.

The names of victims who have died as a result of intimate partner domestic violence during the past year in North Carolina were read aloud at the vigil at the Cumberland County Courthouse.

Some in the crowd held signs, many carrying painful memories of domestic violence.

According to the Coalition against Domestic Violence, 46 people have been killed statewide so far this year as a result of domestic violence.

In 2015, the Coalition listed 53 people killed for the year.

Organizers say that through the years the annual vigil memorial has grown in both the number of victims' names read aloud, and the friends, family, and survivors come out here to the "Remember my Name" memorial.
