SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Airman 1st Class Spencer Stone, who helped take down a gunman on a train in Belgium, was stabbed multiple times in the chest in Sacramento, California early Thursday morning.

"A1C Spencer Stone has been transported to a local hospital, and is currently being treated for injury," Air Force spokesman Lt. Col. Christopher Karns said in an email in Air Force Times. "The incident is currently under investigation by local law enforcement. He is currently in stable condition."

Officials say it appears he was protecting a friend and there is no information on events leading up to the incident, but it was not terrorism.

Stone and his friends Anthony Sadler, Alek Skarlatos were the three heroes from Sacramento who stopped a terror attack August 21 on a train heading from Belgium to France.
